Chiran is a town which was a base for kamikaze pilots at the end of the Pacific War. The Chiran Peace Museum for Kamikaze Pilots displays, preserves and collects the valuable documents of these pilots who rammed enemy ships by becoming human bombs together with their airplanes and was unprecedented in human history at that time. Some of the documents on display include portraits of the pilots, their articles and recordings. The museum is a building contributing to world peace by imparting on its visitors the true feelings at that time, and teaches about the tragedy of war, peace and the preciousness of life so that war will not be repeated again.
