The Amakusa Christian Museum vividly displays the history of Christians in Kyushu in an easy to understand format. Focusing on the Shimabara Rebellion, the museum has on display Christian relics, historical documents and antique ceramics. The “Amakusa Shiro Battle Flag*“, a National Designated Important Cultural Property, is a must see. Why not learn more about the history of Christianity that became apart of Japanese culture?
*Amakusa Shiro was the teenage leader of the Shimabara Rebellion (1637-1638). This Battle Flag is thought to have been used by Amakusa Shiro’s rebel army during the rebellion.
